Happy Halloween! Time for cake...

The lovely Becky at milk bubble tea posted a recipe for some chocolate orange cupcakes. They looked so yummy I just had to give them a go! With a few added Haribo sweets, they have made a great Halloween treat. Super tasty with their gooey chocolate orange centre!

Philosophy Inner Grace Eau de Parfum

Philosophy Inner Grace Eau de Parfum
Perfumes are my weakness - my collection will always have room for one more. So when I stumbled across this in my local Boots store, I just knew this had to be mine!

Inner Grace is a soft floral scent with a hint of musk. When I was younger I was addicted to the white musk fragrance in the Body Shop, which I now find a little too overpowering. This perfume is the lighter, more sophisticated version and I have fallen in love!

Another thing that really impresses me is how lasting this is on my skin. Most other perfumes disappoint me when the scent fades fast and becomes undetectable. With Inner Grace I can spray in the morning before work and the scent is still there on my way home. Winner!

A 60ml of Inner Grace Eau de Parfum is £44.00. Check out the inner grace collection at philosophy.co.uk.

I Heart Fall (aka Autumn) Tag

A spell of food poisoning and some sad news in the family - but thankfully topped off by a relaxing week in sunny Spain! - has meant my blog has been a little neglected. Back now and hoping to be more disciplined with my posts!

Cate at The Perks Of Being A Hipster has just done this tag and I enjoyed reading her answers so thought I would give it a go. I tag all of you so let me know if you do this on your blog so I can check your answers out.

#1 Overall favourite thing about it?
It would have to be the cosy outfits. Knitwear, leggings and boots are pretty much what I live in for Autumn. Although the cold weather can sometimes be a bore I do love that feeling of being all wrapped up with a choice of a hat, scarf and gloves to accessorise.

#2 Favourite Drink?
Nothing can beat a good old cup of tea for me! Although I went to the local cafe near where I work and got myself a hot chocolate which was the most delicious I've tasted. I think I'll be spending many lunch breaks in there.

#3 Favourite Scent/Candle?
I'm currently trying to burn through a candle collection that has been building up. The next to be burnt is my Yankee Candle Kiwi Berries. It's quite a fruity scent and I can't wait to use it in the living room.

#4 Best Lipstick?
I recently bought the Collection Lasting Colour Lipstick in Valentine which I plan to test out through Autumn. I think reds and dark berry colours look great at this time of year.

#5 Go-To Moisturiser?

For me it is my usual Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser Light for combination/oily skin. It lives up to being light to apply and feels really nice on my skin.

#6 Go-To Colours For The Eyes?
I enjoy wearing neutral shades on my eyes and I am currently loving the Soap and Glory Lid Stuff palette in What's Nude.

#7 Favourite Music (Band/Singer) To Listen To?

Norah Jones - she has such a soulful sound which is great for chilling out with a good book.

#8 Favourite Outfit?
An oversized jumper, thick tights and boots.

#9 Autumn Treat (eg Something You Have Your Eye On)?

The longer and colder nights can only mean more baths! I will probably raid Lush for some treats - Ceridwen's Cauldron and Twilight are on my list to try.

#10 Favourite Place To Be?
It would have to be London town. Walking around Hyde Park, feeding the ducks and squirrels, drinking tea and eating carrot cake before travelling home and getting cosy in front of the TV.

#11 Favourite Fall scarf or accessory?
It would have to be my Ugg boots. They are just my staple item for Autumn!

#12 Haunted house, haunted hay ride or haunted corn maze?
When it comes to horror movies I LOVE THEM! However anything with live actors and I freak out. Somehow my friends have managed to get me in The London Dungeons on several occasions which just results in me hiding between them all desperate not to get picked on!

#13 Favourite Halloween movie
This is tricky but I would probably have to say anything from the Saw series. Saw a couple  of them when they were released on Halloween and the atmosphere in the cinema was great...lots of screams and covered faces!

#14 Favourite candy to eat on Halloween
I do enjoy tucking in to strawberry flavoured pencils. Obviously the sweet variety rather than something to draw with!

#15 What are you dressing up for on Halloween?
I will be in my pyjamas at home! However if I was to be partying or out trick or treating - which I think I am a bit too old for - I would probably dress up as a zombie.

Glossybox August 2013

Where is this year going?! Somehow July passed me by without a review of my Glossybox - sorry! - and now it is nearly the end of August! This month's "Highflyers" theme brings some beauty samples from around the world.

Glossybox August 2013

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Noir perfume - full size £63.00 for 100ml
I do enjoy receiving perfume samples as I think they are so handy to have in your bag for days or nights out. This one by Juicy Couture has a lovely sweet berry scent and is something I would definitely wear.  Just not sure that I could part with £63.00 for a full size bottle though.

Jelly Pong Pong 2-in-1 Shadow/Liner  - full size £10.50
Glossybox have provided me with a few Jelly Pong Pong samples over the past few months and wouldn't put them as my first choice to represent the UK in this month's box. I was not keen on how this product applied when used all over the eyelid. Also the colour I received can only be best described as a dull grey/green.

Emite Make Up Eyelash Curler - approximately £20
My current eyelash curler has seen better days so this couldn't have arrived at a better time! It comes with three replacement rubber pads which is a bonus and liking the red and black colouring. It didn't need to co-ordinate with my living room and kitchen but it's handy that it does!

TRESemme Platinum Strength Concentrated Treatment Shot - full size £1.49 for 15ml
I have yet to try this sample out but I am hoping this will help with the slighty dry and damaged ends of my hair. I am not blessed with thick hair and do get oily roots so I hope using this treatment doesn't bring attention to either of those!

Oceane Makeup Remover Pen - not yet available in the UK
I am looking forward to trying this product out as I think it will come in very handy with my eyeliner application. I seem to do a good job with uneven lines! I am hoping that this will be available in the UK soon should I like using this product and need more refills.

What did you get in your Glossybox this month?

Bumble and bumble Surf Travel Set

Boots have recently introduced Bumble and bumble into their stores and it's a pleasing moment for me...though I'm sure my bank balance is feeling slightly concerned!
We now have a shampoo and conditioner to go with their famous surf spray, which can be bought in this cute travel kit of 50ml bottles. My hair itself is in pretty good condition but it is not the thickest and can look rather flat once the greasy roots make an appearance. It frustrates me that if I don't wash my hair I have to wear it up to hide how lanky it looks! These two factors mean I can sometimes lose patience with trying to find new styles to wear my hair as it just doesn't seem to go how I imagine.
The shampoo and condition provide texture to my hair, boosted dramatically with use of the surf spray. Another thing I like is that a quick scrunch throughout the day helps to rework your hair and keep that messy volume. Something which I can never achieve no matter how much hairspray and texture I try to blowdry in to my hair! Unlike most shampoos which are all about the shine and gloss, this combination gives a more matte, beachy look, which has meant I can get away with not washing every day! Hooray! Full size bottles will be coming my way.
You can purchase the surf travel set for £18 for three 50ml bottles from bumbleandbumble.co.uk or check the Boots website for more information on store stockists.

Lush Review: Space Girl Bath Bomb

Space Girl Bath Bomb
I think I have found another favourite when it comes to bath bombs! I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to try this one as the sweet scent, novelty shape and hint of glitter ticks all the boxes for me.

Space Girl includes grapefruit, almond and bergamot oil, smelling sweet like candy. I don't find the smell too overpowering but thought that it was more subtle once in the water. Also if you are not a fan of glittery baths, do not be put off by this one. From what I could tell, the only glitter is on the outside so you won't get any nasty surprises.

The thing I love most this bath bomb is what it does once in the water. Whilst fizzing away, turning the water into a deep violet, you get swirls of bright fuschia which turn your bath into your own little galaxy. I found it fascinating watching the creation!
The Space Girl bath bomb is a bargain at £2.10 and available on lush.co.uk.

CHALLENGE COMPLETE!
30 Day Snap | CollageI have really enjoyed taking part in this challenge. For me, the best part about this has been finding other blogs that have been snapping away too and that I know I will continue to check out now the challenge is over. I must admit I have struggled on some days to find something truly blog-worthy but I love some of the pictures I've taken and shared. I hope that you have enjoyed my 30 Day Snap and yours if you took part.

30 Day Snap | Day 29

30 Day Snap | Scrabble

I only had to work for a few hours today but I was so pleased to get home and get in the garden. Lazing around enjoying the sunshine, blue skies and cloudy apple juice. Then things got serious and the Scrabble board came out! I didn't win and I blame it on the fact I must have picked up about 8 letter I tiles throughout the game and just struggled to get rid of them!

Ellen xx

30 Day Snap | Day 28

If there is one thing I miss since moving into the flat it is having our own garden. We are lucky that we are surrounded by lots of greenery but it would be nice to have some to call our own. Whilst being at Mum's whilst she's on holiday, I've enjoyed pottering around in the garden and looking at all the pretty flowers in bloom.

30 Day Snap | Day 27

30 Day Snap | Horse

I've had a few troublesome snap days so I have to confess that my boyfriend has kindly donated this picture to my blog! He popped out for a cycle and came across this beauty. I think I am going to have to meet him for myself.

30 Day Snap | Day 26

30 Day Snap | Nerds
Nerds remind me of my childhood. I was a little obsessed! When I saw this big box in Walgreens in Florida I just had to have them! Amazingly there are still loads in the box - I somehow forget I have them.

30 Day Snap | Cat

Meet Leo, my 14 year old tabby cat. Isn't he handsome?! When I moved out with my boyfriend last year, I had to leave him behind with Mum. I wish I could have taken him with us but I didn't want to unsettle him in his old age. At Mum's he has plenty of house and garden to roam and also we are not allowed pets in the flat (I say a gerbil is an exception to that rule...still let's keep that between us!)

Whilst Mum is away on holiday, we are looking after the house so that means I get to have plenty of cat cuddles! I must admit I do miss him as I've grown up with him since I was 10. He's my furry baby!

30 Day Snap | Day 24

30 Day Snap | Gerbil
It takes a lot for Petal to stand still, let alone be still enough to have her picture taken. When she's not sleeping, she will usually be scratching around in her coconut hide, doing a marathon around her cage or chewing on a cardboard tube! However if there is one thing that makes her stop, it's fruit...especially grapes or strawberries. Seeing as this stopped her, I thought I'd grab a quick photo to share with you all.

30 Day Snap | Toad In The Hole
Meet one of my dinner specials! I have a knack for making Yorkshire pudding mix. They rise like you've never seen and my Toad In The Hole is more Toad On A Sofa! There's hardly room on the plate for anything else. One very tasty Sunday dinner if I do say so myself!

Glossybox June 2013

Glossybox June 2013

I apologise that my blog has been a little lacking in beauty posts recently. Starting a new job, having several busy weekends and ensuring I keep up with the 30 Day Snap challenge have left me little time to really sit down and do some proper blogging. I am currently planning a few posts to get up very soon  as I have got my hands on some products I am excited to try.

Now that's out the way, there is one thing I need to post about this month and that is June's Glossybox.

Helen E Cosmetics Lip Waterproof Protective Lip Liner - full size £8.00 for 1.3g
Monu Professional Skincare Hydrating Moisturiser SPF 15 - full size £29.95 for 50ml
Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom Lip Balm - full size £5.00 for 12.5ml
MeMeMe Cosmetics Eye Inspire Mono Eye Shadow in Dusk - full size £4.99
John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum - full size £6.29 for 50ml

I love the pretty packaging of the Figs & Rouge Lip Balm. When I first saw it, it reminded me of the L'Occitane hand creams. This does have a nice pink tint once on the lips - a lot less subtle than when it comes out the tube.

As much as I feel like I have so many moisturiser samples, I am really pleased with the Monu Hydrating Moisturiser. It applies nicely to the skin and is a good sample size to keep in your handbag or take on holiday. The scent is quite fresh and slightly herbal - don't think this would be to everyone's taste.

The John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum is for medium to coarse frizzy hair. This is far from my type so I am not sure how much this product would do for my hair. I will probably still give the serum a go but will probably pass on to someone who might find it more useful.

Lip liner is not something I have really used but I think this colour will go well with some of the lipsticks I own. I like the texture and think it will apply really well to the lip.

Finally, the MeMeMe eyeshadow has great pigmentation and blends well. I would have preferred a different shade as I already have several grey/black shades in my make-up collection but this had made me want to try other shades offered by MeMeMe.

Overall, this month's box has been a bit mixed for me. Although the theme was Summer Looks, I feel like they could have included some brighter coloured products.

What did you get in your Glossybox this month?

30 Day Snap | Day 22

30 Day Snap | Glasses

It's that time of year where I am due an eye test and get told they have got a little worse...exciting times. As I've found black rectangular frames suit my face and I wear my glasses all the time I find it very difficult to change to any other style. Specsavers do a 2 for 1 offer on their £69+ pairs of glasses so I decided on getting a second pair that are slightly larger and rounder. I am hoping this will be a gentle start to choosing different frames and maybe colours eventually. All in good time!

30 Day Snap | The Green Mile

This is one of my favourite films. I have seen it several times and, even though I know what happens, it never fails to make me cry. It is such a gripping storyline and would highly recommend if you have not seen it. Just ensure you have a box of tissues nearby!

30 Day Snap | Jim Chapman

On my morning commute I tend to grab a Metro or equivalent to keep me occupied on my journey. Today I found one of my favourite YouTubers, Jim Chapman, making an appearance. The challenges he has completed look pretty fun and they can all be watched on the VO5ExtremeStyle YouTube channel.

30 Day Snap | Lunch

I didn't bother making my lunch today and didn't buy the healthiest one either. However it went down so well as my stomach seemed to be rumbling all morning! The weather was incredibly warm today so it was lovely sitting on the grass, chomping down some tasty lunch and reading a magazine. I wish I could have stayed out there all afternoon.

Ellen xx

30 Day Snap | Day 18

30 Day Snap | Building

On my lunch break I usually take a walk up to Clapham Common. I'm not sure what this building is but I just love how it looks - minus the annoying coach that got in the way of my picture! It reminds me of those fancy dolls houses you can buy.

30 Day Snap | Cheesecake

It's been a weekend of food! As a Father's Day treat, my boyfriend's parents came over for lunch. It was super tasty and dessert was vanilla cheesecake with raspberries and cream. Yummy! There was a slice left over so that could only mean one thing - a Monday night treat. I love cheesecake!

30 Day Snap | Owl

Most people know I am little obsessed with owls. There are plenty to find around the flat! My best friend recently came back from holiday and brought me back this beauty. I am in love with it and sure I will try and wear it as much as possible.

30 Day Snap | Day 15

30 Day Snap | Nachos

Yesterday I forgot to post my snap *slaps hand*. I had every intention of doing it after I had scoffed down these super yummy nachos but instead I had to get ready to meet some friends at the pub. I know it's a bit cheeky of me putting up another food snap so soon after the enchiladas but these just tasted heavenly - look at all that greasy cheese. Mmmmm!

30 Day Snap | Caffe Nero

I tend to make my lunch every day but I thought I would make an exception today. Just across the road from where I work is a Caffe Nero so I treated myself to a ham, mozzarella and emmental toastie along with a slice of caramel shortbread and a glass of San Pellegrino Limonata. It was nice and quiet so I grabbed myself a seat by the window and watched the people pass by - not in a creepy way!

30 Day Snap | EnchiladasAs much as I enjoy cooking, I like the odd night where you can prepare something relatively quickly which still ends up being pretty darn tasty! I love the Old El Paso kits and they were on 2 for £5 when I did our grocery shop this week so, naturally, I got a few. Enchiladas tonight and they were super yummy! One full satisfied tum and a sleepy Ellen.

30 Day Snap | Apps
Recently I have been a little addicted to these few apps on my iPad. I seem to check on my Sims and farm in the morning before work and then at various points throughout the evening until bed time. The other night I was playing Candy Crush in bed and casually fell asleep mid-game! Let me know if there are any other apps you would recommend.

30 Day Snap | Day 11

You'll have to excuse the picture today! Swimming after work and ordering food shopping meant I've only just thought about my blog. I've tried to make it a little more interesting with the addition of a speech bubble!

I love it when a parcel arrives especially when it's something you've wanted to try for a while and it gives you the perfect opportunity to plan a new blog post. I'm hoping to try the products out this weekend and give you all a review post to read. It's been a little while - all thanks to a new job, busy weekends and the added determination of at least getting something up for the 30 Day Snap!

30 Day Snap | Day 10

30 Day Snap | Candle

After a long day at work, I enjoy nothing more than lighting a few candles and soaking in a hot bath surrounded by bubbles. I find they are such a good way to relax and clear my head. Baths also provide me with the joys of shopping in Lush for new bath bombs and bubble bars - the excitement of putting them in the water and seeing what happens!

30 Day Snap | Lamp

Bit of a random photo this evening as I just realised that I hadn't posted yet! This lamp was a great find in IKEA, one of my favourite places for shopping and meatballs. I love that it's a little bit different from your standard table lamp. It gives off a subtle light and creates quite the funky pattern on the walls. You can find it here on the IKEA website.

30 Day Snap | Green

It's another sunny day in London and another quick snap for me as I'm soon to be heading off to a family BBQ - yum yum!

When we were looking at our flat last year, one of the things I loved was how much greenery there was around considering it's not that far from a main road and the centre of town. Especially on days like today, I love that I get this view when doing the washing up in the kitchen. It's just so nice feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere.

30 Day Snap | Day 6

30 Day Snap | Gerbil
This is Petal, my gerbil, enjoying my dressing gown sleeve. It seems to be one of her favourite places.

She must be getting close to three years old now and is still as crazy as when I first got her. She used to live with her gerbil friend, Blossom, who sadly passed away in February. Being social animals, I was worried how Petal would cope and wasn't sure how she would be with a new friend but she seems to be as happy as ever. Chewing through toilet rolls like there's no tomorrow and running around like a crazy person gerbil <3

30 Day Snap | Tea

I love a cup of tea - it helps wake me up in the morning, unwind after work and goes well with a book before bedtime. The only time I will go a day without tea is on holiday - it's just never the same elsewhere. That means as soon as I arrive back home, it's the first thing I have! I found a couple of quotes that I think sum it up:

"There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea."
Bernard-Paul Heroux

"If you are cold, tea will warm you.  If you are too heated, it will cool you.  If you are depressed, it will cheer you.  If you are excited, it will calm you."
Gladstone, 1865

30 Day Snap | Sunset

Last night I was in bed by 10pm, relaxing with a book and preparing for the 6am alarm. I couldn't believe that it was still light-ish outside! If there's one thing I love about Spring/Summer is the light evenings when you feel like getting out and going somewhere - always helped out further when there's some lovely warm sunshine! Today's snap is a picture of the sun setting from our flat - such pretty colours.

30 Day Snap | Day 2

30 Day Snap | Stephen King
I've always had a vivid imagination and love books that capture you, allowing you to build a clear picture in your mind as the characters grow and the story progresses. Much like my film choices, I enjoy - if that's the right word! - a horror/thriller and have always been a fan of Stephen King's writing. Reading at bedtime has always been my preference and, considering my favourite genre, there have been no horrible nightmares yet!

30 Day Snap | Day 1

Today is the first day of June and that means the first day of the 30 Day Snap Challenge. Louise aka Sprinkle Of Glitter came up with the fantastic idea of taking and uploading one picture every day in June. Click the image below to read her original post.

Let's get this started!

We've not had much luck with the weather in the UK and Spring really has been a mixed bag of sunny spells and showers - lots of showers! These tulips have really brightened up the flat on those grey days and opened up so beautifully. I love having fresh flowers around the place.

Feel free to join in with the challenge. I'm really enjoying seeing what pictures are appearing on people's blogs.

Lush Review: Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Lush Bubblegum Lip ScrubI am lucky that I don't get extremely chapped lips but they do need an exfoliation every now and then to remove the dead skin cells. I hadn't tried a lip scrub before so thought I would give the one in Lush a go. Their scrubs come in three flavours; Bubblegum, Mint Julips and Popcorn. I knew instantly which one I was going to choose!

The ingredients are caster sugar and oils which does make it seem a little pricey at £5.25 for a 25g pot. However I would say that it is worth it as the scrub just seems to be never ending! All you have to do is get a small amount on your finger and rub into your lips. Then you can choose to lick the sugary bubblegum goodness off - yum yum - or wipe off with a tissue...but where's the fun in that?!

Being a pot filled with sugar granules it can become a little messy on application especially if you've picked up a lot of product on your finger...unless you are going for the "I've just eaten a doughnut without licking my lips" look! It's a product that I wouldn't use whilst out and about because of this. For me, I enjoy using the scrub as part of my evening routine. Once scrubbed, I apply some lip balm to keep my lips feeling soft and smooth.

I like that you get a little picture of which employee made your product and when..so I'd like to thank Robert as he did a great job making the scrub I bought!

To buy the Bubblegum Lip Scrub or other flavours, go to lush.co.uk

PREEN for Elizabeth Arden at Debenhams

Debenhams recently had their Summer Spectacular - up to 25% off across the store - and thought it was the perfect chance for to spend my giftcards and get some bargains. After nosing around shoes, clothes, handbags and home, I was no closer to making a purchase and was getting that frustrated shopper feeling. I was desperate to buy something...so I headed to beauty and fragrance...

Compared to other Debenhams stores, the one near me doesn't have the largest product range -  I could've easily used my giftcards on some MAC, Urban Decay or Illamasqua. I don't usually spend much time looking at the Elizabeth Arden product range but the mention of a free gift with a purchase is a sure way to get me interested!

Until 1st June 2013, if you buy two Elizabeth Arden products, one being skincare, you can receive a PREEN beauty bag and five sample products from a choice of ten worth £88.

I purchased the Eight Hour Cream Fragrance Free Skin Protectant as I had previously used a sample which I loved. A great multi-use product! I also purchased the Visible Difference Hydration Boost Night Mask as I had been looking for a new mask to try. It has a creamy, clay-like texture and leaves skin feeling plump and hydrated.

The five products I chose for my beauty bag were the:
50ml Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser for combination skin
30ml Visible Difference Skin Balancing Lotion SPF 15 for combination skin
15ml Visible Difference Optimizing Skin Serum
30ml Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturising Hand Treatment
3.5g Ceramide Ultra Lipstick in Melon

Although I can't remember the exact products, there were also four samples from the PREVAGE® and Ceramide product range and a mini eyeshadow palette with brown tones to choose from.

Visit your local store to choose your five samples with your purchase. Alternatively buy your two products on debenhams.com and receive the beauty bag containing one product from the PREVAGE®, Ceramide, Visible Difference and Eight Hour Cream range along with the mini eyeshadows.
